Retention is not backup
Microsoft's retention periods do not protect against deletion or ransomware. Deleted or encrypted data is recoverable only within limited windows.
Technical detail
- Migration from Exchange on-premises, Google Workspace, IMAP and hosted providers
- Mail, calendar, contacts, files and permissions migrated with coexistence during transition
- Licence review — unused, duplicated and over-specified assignments identified
- Security baseline: MFA enforcement, conditional access, legacy authentication disabled, mailbox auditing, sharing controls and retention policy
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured and validated
- SharePoint and OneDrive structure and permission model
- Third-party backup, because Microsoft's retention is not backup and doesn't protect against deletion or ransomware
- Entra ID configuration and identity hygiene
Common questions
Does Microsoft back up our data?
No. Retention periods are not backup. Deleted or encrypted data is recoverable only within limited windows.
Will email be interrupted during migration?
No. Coexistence is configured so mail flows throughout cutover.
Are we paying for the right licences?
Frequently not. The review usually pays for itself.
Could we use something else?
Yes, and we'll say so if it fits better. We hold no Microsoft quota.
